Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania. It has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world: 5,895 meters above sea level and about 4,900 meters above its plateau base.

Mt Kilimanjaro attracts a lot of climbers annually due to its beautiful landscape and fresh air breath at the summit. Mt Kilimanjaro can be climbed via Lemosho Route, Shira Route, Machame Route (“Whiskey” Route), Rongai Route, Marangu Route (“Coca-Cola” Route) & Umbwe Route.

Tips

Do not forget lightweight safari shoes or trainers, sandals, sunglasses, sun creams, insect repellent creams, a lightweight first aid kit, day pack for your cameras, rucksack for your safari gears and clothes. Of course, you will want to capture much of Tanzania’s wildlife, so don’t forget a camera, batteries, memory cards and charger (we have usb connectors to charge your mobile and camera in the car). A telephoto lens will be found useful as well as a pair of binoculars. In case you’re bringing any electrical equipment, the electricity is 220v.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVING AT THE AIRPORT, TO ARUSHA

Our guide will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to Arusha. Safari briefing and relax.

Day 2FIRST STAGE AND LAKE DULUTI

After Breakfast, map reading and equipment inspection to start our first stage. We will start cycling from Vijiji Lodge to Arusha National Park gate. On our way back we will enjoy a drink on the shore of the lake Duluti. You will also have the chance to sail its calm waters on canoe.

Day 3MATERUNI WATERFALLS, COFFEE PLANTATION AND CHAGGA TRIBE CAVES

The day starts with a hearty breakfast at Vijiji Lodge. Then we will drive with all cycling equipment to Mount Kilimanjaro Slopes where we will do a refreshing excursion at Materuni Water Falls. After the dip what better than toasting and tasting your own coffee at a coffee plantation where you will also have the chance to visit the Chagga tribe caves. Lunch, some relax and dropping down bikes to start cycling to Mkuu Rombo around Mount Kilimanjaro Slopes.

Day 4FULL DAY CLIMBING UP KILIMANJARO BY BIKE OR TREKKING

Enjoy your breakfast at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. With a full stomach let´s do the briefing of our full day climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on bike or trekking. Firstly we will drive to Marangu Gate where all cyclists must register before starting the route. Our full day excursion starts from Londorosi gate or Morum Picnic Site and back to Morum Picnic. Lunch box in nature for time optimizing. Dinner and massage at Babylon Lodge.

Day 5EMBRACING MAASAI PEOPLE CULTURE

Challenging ride Ride from Babylon Lodge to Sanya Juu. Hearty breakfast, bike and equipment inspections, briefing, map reading and start cycling. In this route we will cross the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, maasai land during centuries. We will take the opportunity to visit Maasai house (BOMA) to experience the culture and character of Maasai people. After some hours of cycling, let´s rest and relax in our accommodation at Sanya Juu. Hot shower and body massage. Mountain Bike Night Fire while having BBQ and Local Drinks like Safari, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania Spirit Konyagi and Dodoma Wine. Storytelling about Tanzania and our culture and time to share stories and experiences.

Day 6CHEMKA HOT SPRINGS

Breakfast and preparations for next stage. Today we will cycle from Sanya juu to Chemka Hot springs at Boma Ng’ombe. Take a refreshing dip in this natural pool. Its transparent water and natural beauty will make your day! Enjoy a lunch box or bbq at this paradisiacal hotspring.

Day 7MOUNT MERU AND BIKING SAFARI AT ARUSHA N.P.

Energizing breakfast, bike and equipment inspection, breafing, map reading and start cycling from Boma Ng,ombe to the base of Mount Meru Via Arusha National Park. We offer you the chance to do an afternoon biking safari at Arusha N.P. This little and quite natural jewel located at the foot of Mount Meru is a great option to do a safe and unforgettable biking safari. It´s also possible to do a walking safari.

Day 8 & 92 DAYS WILDFILE SAFARI

Two days wildlife safari by off-road vehicle and bike. Choose two of this parks: Tarangire National Park; Lake Manyara National Park and Ngoro Ngoro Crater.

Day 10ARUSHA TOURIST DAY

Breakfast and driving to women community around Tengeru. Feel free to buy some Handcrafts to support Tanzania Women’s Local Organisation. Let´s drive to Arusha and enjoy a lunch at Kulan, an authentic African restaurant. Time for cultural activity with our visit to Cultural Heritage Museum, a charming museum full of African Art. Then moment to visit the Maasai Market, a local market where you can find all kinds of handcraft. Good place to buy souvenirs of the country.

Day 11ARUSHA – KILIMANJARO AIRPORT (JRO)

After breakfast, we will transfer you to the airport to continue your holidays at Zanzibar or your flight back home.
